On Thursday, February 6 and Friday, February 7, 2020, the elementary school teachers at TDSB and YRDSB will be on strike. For those parents in need of childcare, the York Communities for Public Education is offering camps for elementary school-aged children in solidarity with education workers and educators who are fighting to defend publicly funded education.
Parents may drop off their children at the Newmarket Soccer Dome (621 Newpark Blvd) between the hours of 8:30am to 3:30pm. The program for children will include 2 hours of soccer drills each day (coaches will be donating their time), 1 hour of martial arts by Aurora Family Martial Arts (donated by the instructor), a variety of arts and crafts (with registered ECEs donating their time), and a pizza lunch and snacks will be provided (apple slices and chips).
YCFPE is charging $10 per child for the all day camp.
